About The Event

Please refer to information sheets from the ORMTA Provincial application forms for Level A and B requirements. Level C: A maximum of 10 minutes and up to three contrasting selections. (Vocal: Two languages; English and another language.) 

Level A: $60– Is for instrumentalists 23 years and under and vocalists between the ages of 20 and 31 as of January 1, 2020. Students performing in this competition must be at the Associate level or above. The overall programme must be a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 40 minutes. For instrumentalists, the programme must include a Canadian work. Competitors do not necessarily have to perform an entire sonata; they can select movements from a sonata. Vocalists must include an art song, an aria (opera/oratorio), a contemporary work and a Canadian composition. They must choose three selections and the selections must be in two or more languages other than English. The winner of this competition advances to represent the North Central Zone at the Provincial Competition. http://ormta.org/competitions-awards/instrumental/rules 

Level B Student Instrumental: $40 –Is for students 23 years and under as of January 1, 2020. Students performing in this competition must be at the Grade 10 or higher level. Repertoire must be chosen from an officially recognized Canadian syllabus, such as that of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada, Contemporary Showcase, or the Canadian Music Showcase. The programme should include a minimum of two pieces. The programme must contain a minimum of 15 minutes of repertoire and must not exceed 20 minutes. The winner of this competition advances to represent the North Central Zone at the Provincial Competition. 

Level B Student Vocal: $40 –Is for students 31 years and under as of January 1, 2020. Students performing in this competition must be at the Grade 9 or higher level. Repertoire must be chosen from an officially recognized Canadian syllabus, such as that of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada, Contemporary Showcase, or the Canadian Music Showcase. The programme should include a minimum of two pieces. The programme must not exceed 20 minutes. The winner of this competition advances to represent the North Central Zone at the Provincial Competition. 

Level C Junior Instrumental: $30– Instrumental Students performing in this competition must be at the Grade 8 or 9 level. Repertoire must be chosen from an officially recognized Canadian syllabus, such as that of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada, Contemporary Showcase, or the Canadian Music Showcase. The programme should include two or three pieces from contrasting musical periods. The programme must not exceed 10 minutes. Since there is no Junior Instrumental Competition at the Provincial level, a winner of this competition can advance no further than the Zone Competition 

Level C Junior Vocal: $30–Vocal students performing in this competition must be at the Grade 8 level. Repertoire must be chosen from an officially recognized Canadian syllabus, such as that of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Conservatory Canada, Contemporary Showcase, or the Canadian Music Showcase. The programme should include a maximum of three contrasting selections (with a minimum of two languages). The programme must not exceed 10 minutes. Since there is no Junior Vocal Competition at the Provincial level, a winner of this competition can advance no further than the Zone Competition.
